About Belonge

Forty-one tries. One knit we kept.

We make squat-proof gym tights, co-ord sets and athleisure for women — knitted, cut and sewn forty minutes from our desk in Ahmedabad.

Worn by1,240+ women

Belonge started in an Ahmedabad changing room, with a pair of tights that went sheer at the bottom of a squat and a woman who decided she was done being let down by her own kit.

We spent the next two years doing the unglamorous part: knitting, wearing, washing and rejecting. Forty-one fabric trials before one held its colour, its opacity and its shape through everything we threw at it. That knit — a 240 GSM four-way-stretch Hydro-Wick nylon — is the reason the brand exists, and it is still the only one we use for tights.

Everything else follows from it. A waistband that is bonded rather than elasticated, so it holds through a hinge instead of rolling. A gusset cut in one piece, so there is no seam where you sit. Depth-tested opacity on every colour, not just the black. Sizes graded on real women in Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Bengaluru rather than scaled up from a sample size six.

We are a small team and we make in India, forty minutes from where we work, in a unit we walk into unannounced. That closeness is the quality control. It is also why we can promise a free exchange in seven days without flinching — we know exactly what left the building.

What we refuse to compromise

Three rules, no exceptions
01 — Opacity

Squat-proof, or it does not ship

Every colour is photographed at full depth under studio light before it goes on sale. If we can see through it, the dye lot is rejected — not discounted. If a pair ever sheers on you, we replace it free, no photograph required.

02 — Fit

Graded on Indian bodies

Our size chart comes from measuring real women across three cities, not from scaling a single sample. Hip-to-waist ratios here run differently, and the grade reflects that — which is why so few of our exchanges are for size.

03 — Longevity

Still black after forty washes

We wash-test to forty cycles and measure colour loss, waistband recovery and pilling at ten, twenty and forty. A tight that bags at the knee has failed, however cheap it was. We would rather sell you fewer pairs, longer.

How a pair gets made

Ahmedabad · start to dispatch
Step 01

Knit and dye

Hydro-Wick nylon knitted to 240 GSM with elastane through the weft, then dyed in small lots so colour stays consistent within a run. Each lot is opacity-tested before it is cut.

Step 02

Cut, bond, stitch

Flatlock seams where the fabric moves, a bonded waistband where it must not roll, and a one-piece gusset. Nothing is topstitched where it will sit against skin under load.

Step 03

Wear-test and pack

A sample from every run is worn through a full session — hinge, squat, sprint — before the run is released. Then it is folded, packed in recycled board and out of the door inside 48 hours.

From the founder

“I did not want to build another activewear label. I wanted one pair of tights I never had to think about again.”

Founder · Belonge, Ahmedabad

The first hundred orders were packed on a dining table. We read every message that came back — the good ones and the blunt ones — and changed the waistband twice because of them.

That habit has not gone anywhere. If something we made does not do what we said it would, write to us and it gets fixed or replaced. Not because it is policy, but because there are only a few of us and we would rather not make the same mistake twice.

Try one pair. That is the whole pitch.
